Lisa Hutson

ARTIST STATEMENT

I create artwork using multiple mediums and in multiple styles. I knew I had talent when my high school art teacher offered the intensive art course to me. Over a decade later I took a couple of classes at a community college. I found graphite and pastel pleasing and validating. Periodically, for the next couple of decades, I created art when the distraction of raising children was minimized. I waited patiently for retirement. However, I left my job in my early 50s and started doing realistic pastel portraits and landscapes. My business started with portrait commissions based on people's positive responses to my work, and I am grateful to be typing my artist statement on my ecommerce website 8 years later. Three years ago, I made original artwork in oil, acrylic and pastel a priority. As an intuitive, self-taught artist the switch was perfect. I describe my acrylic abstracts, as dynamic, colorful, bold, and sometimes busy. My acrylic landscapes are abstract figurative, spacious, and other-worldly. My landscapes in oil exude confidence, indifference and acute observation. However, all my paintings embody multiple layers, intuitive redirection and the opportunity for viewers to pause and enjoy what came to visit by way of visual art. My work sums up who I am and who I can rarely be.

BIO

Lisa Hutson is a self-taught visual artist with nearly a decade of solid business and creative experience. After leaving her job in her early 50's, she began building her art career through realistic pastel portraits. Lisa naturally added acrylic and oil works that include portraits, landscapes, and abstracts paintings. Her creative process is intuitive, bold, and reflective with a goal of creating artwork that invites viewers to pause, connect, and take a visual journey. Lisa's acrylic abstracts are dynamic and energetic, while her oil landscapes are impressionistic and contemplative. Her pastel portraits have led to many commissions, and her contemporary realistic portraits in acrylic validate her versatility across mediums and styles. A lifelong resident in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area, Lisa is also the proud mother of two children and two grandchildren.

I first learned about Lisa Hutson through an author I follow on social media. I had been thinking for some time that I wanted to have a portrait done of my beloved 17 year old mix breed dog. I surveyed Lisa's website for the details & sent her an email along with the photograph I hoped she could paint.  Via a phone call she answered my questions  (one was how durable are pastels? Very -- they last over a hundred years). Then in about a week she emailed some "proofs" of the painting in process. By the end of the 2nd week the portrait was done & I received it in perfect condition -- it was packaged extremely well with bubble wrap & cardboard. I am so pleased with how it turned out, and I encourage you to go for it!

“In 1986, my husband took a snapshot that caught a moment of pure joy. That photo remained a favorite for decades, and when I saw Lisa Hutson’s work, I knew I’d finally found a painter who could make art out of an instant of captured happiness.”

Omgosh! Lisa!!!!

It's even better in person!!!! It's so realistic. I love it so very much. Thank you for a beautiful piece of art and a completely flawless communication process from start to finish.
